From our core values of Innovation & Excellence, our ability to solve technical challenges presented from unusual requests is exemplary.

We are, on a day to day basis, continually seeking for new ways to overcome the most complex of engineering challenges.

From providing industry leading bespoke innovative access solutions for the world’s leading industrial blue chip companies to designing temporary scaffold access decks to large marine jetties, we are continually looking to innovate our designs by utilising industry first access techniques.

Due to our extensive experience and exposure in the industrial sectors we fully understand how down time and outage works affects process and cost.

We aim to complete our designs with the minimum disruption at site level and interface closely with the clients operations teams to fully understand the design brief from the outset.

Offshore Lifeboat Davit Replacement

As part of Zenith’s services to the offshore industry, we specialise in the replacement of lifeboat davits on gas and oil platforms. Detailed below gives an overview of a recently completed project that was executed in a safe, cost effective and timely manner:

Zenith was contacted by Shell UK Limited, who operates several offshore platforms in the North Sea, to change out the top vertical section (max 2.5Te lifts) on three of their lifeboat stations and to install new lifeboats. The project presented two key problems:

Firstly, the offshore platform crane could not reach the area where the lifeboat stations were located and secondly, the access to and around the stations proved extremely tight for manoeuvrability of necessary plant, equipment and the newly fabricated vertical sections. The client considered using temporary mobile cranes, additional lifting points and how to utilize scaffolding to allow the crane suitable access, however, this solution would prove onerous due to the load bearing on the platform. An alternative solution had to be found. Zenith proposed the following NINE step solution to the client, which was duly considered and accepted.

STEP 1 – Initial Concept Design

STEP 2 – Full Design Works

STEP 3 – Fabrication and Testing of Equipment

STEP 4 – Project Management of Site Works

STEP 5 – Offshore Pre-Outage Works:

  1. Mobilise to Offshore Platform and unload equipment and transport to work areas
  2. Install lifting runway beam and install lifeboat deck level winch
  3. Install diverter system and associated rigging and install platform temporary support trestles
  4. Prepare first new platform on weather deck and lift first new platform on to temporary support trestle
  5. Install fall arrest lines over original first lifeboat and assist with initial stripping of equipment.

STEP 6 – Replace First Lifeboat

STEP 7 – Replace Second Lifeboat

STEP 8 – Replace Third Lifeboat

STEP 9 – Offshore Post-Outage Works

Industrial Scaffolding (Cement Industry)

We have a outstanding reputation for providing bespoke scaffolding solutions for the cement industry. We safely and successfully operate throughout the United Kingdom working for the leading cement companies.

Our scaffold design capability includes full engineering design, working drawings, calculations, site erection and inspection services.

The engineering concepts and design of complex scaffolding works are carried out by our in-house engineering consultancy. This is done using traditional engineering analysis and design techniques complimented by industry standard computer-based analysis and design software.

All scaffold systems are designed in line with appropriate national standards.

Heater & Vessel Access

We are industry leaders in the design, installation and operation of bespoke innovative temporary suspended access platforms to gain full internal access in heaters and vessels during refinery turnarounds, particularly where time is at a premium. Comprehensive confined space control protocols are implemented.

Typically the access platforms can be installed within an extremely short period allowing more time for detailed inspections and repairs.

Scaffold (Historic Buildings)

We have a vast wealth of experience in the design and installation of innovate scaffolding for historical buildings and monuments. We have all of the in-house engineering design and on-site erection capabilities to provide innovative solutions to facilitate detailed inspections, maintenance and repair activities.

Bridge Works

Masonry, stone and wrought iron bridges gave way to reinforced concrete in the early 20th century. Up until then thousands of river, road and rail crossings across the UK were forged by traditional stone and masonry arch construction techniques.

Never having been designed to withstand the impact of today’s environment, the decay and subsequent weakening of these structures is beginning to cause concerns for the national transport authorities.

The key skills of our team at Zenith Conservation, and our Engineers Consultancy, are transferable to assist with identifying solutions for suitable repair, refurbishment and strengthening techniques of ageing masonry and stone (or composite) bridges.

We are able to work as principle contractor or as a specialist to the transport authorities. In addition we are able to provide a reactive service to repair damaged masonry or stone parapets caused by vehicle impact or similar.
