ZENITH BRINGS WORLD-CLASS INNOVATION & EXCELLENCE TO A MAJOR CEMENT PLANT PROJECT

During 2025, Zenith’s long-standing cement industry client, Tarmac, having complete confidence in Zenith’s extensive world-class in-house capabilities for temporary works design, specialist lifting capability, specialist access solutions and mechanical solutions, required the replacement of three 6m sections of their Tertiary Air (TA) duct at their Dunbar cement plant.
As the TA duct was located within a roofed building structure, and after numerous discussions between Tarmac’s engineers and Zenith’s engineering and contracts teams, Zenith believed the best option available would be to design and install a bespoke lifting system that would not involve removing sections of the roof and, more importantly, the roof strengthening cross bracing.
After Zenith carried out a structural analysis of the entire roof to ascertain the imposed loadings, Zenith’s innovative proposal was to install a bespoke designed scaffold and lifting system that would negate the need for the use of a crane and would not require any roof alterations to allow for the safe removal of the three 6m sections and the reinstallation of the three new replacement 6m sections. The entire project was safely and successfully carried out over a four-week period. The entire TA duct has a full length of 52 m. During the first quarter of 2026, Zenith safely and successfully replaced the remaining 34m section of the TA duct.

As full members of the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association, LEEA, we design and detail bespoke fabrications and solutions to our international customer base. Where precise control, movement and weight measurement is required we are also capable of designing hydraulic lifting and sliding systems.
