Glasgow Cathedral

Historic Environment Scotland (HES) engaged Zenith Group to design an innovative access solution for a major conservation project at Glasgow Cathedral. HES and Zenith have collaborated for over 20 years, with Zenith providing unique innovative access solutions to their most challenging access, repair, and maintenance issues.  HES recognized Zenith’s unique engineering capabilities, highly skilled team, and innovative approach and knew we would provide a safe innovative solution.

Extensive discussions between HES and Zenith’s world-leading in-house engineers led to the design of a unique scaffold, aligned with HES’s remit. Comprehensive pre-works and health and safety discussions took place. The scaffolding was designed using aluminium tubing, due to the load weight imposed on the roof. The scaffold was installed by Zenith scaffolders following Zenith engineers’ design.

From the outset, it was agreed that the scaffold would remain in situ for several years and be directly purchased by HES. While Zenith’s in-house team includes a wide range of trades, HES’s internal conservation trade specialists would use the scaffold for repair and maintenance access.

HES approached Zenith again to design and install internal scaffolding for the steelwork repairs to the internal spire. The renovation project recently featured on BBC One’s “Repair Shop on the Road”

Zenith Group is a world-leading provider of specialist access and repair solutions, supporting global blue-chip companies with safe and innovative solutions.
