Scottish Power Building Refurbishment at Stonebyres Power Station, Scotland.

Hydro Power Stations

Stonebyres Hydro-electric Power Station, located about 0.5km downstream from Stonebyres Falls near Kirkfieldbank on the NW bank of the River Clyde, was built in 1927.

Zenith were engaged by the previous asset owner, Scottish Power in December 2018 to undertake civil repairs to the station building involving minor roof refurbishment, window replacement, concrete defect repairs and the removal and re-application of the surface coating to the external walls.

Initial Scope of Works

The outline scope covers the following works:

  • Provision of all access
  • External building refurbishment to all four elevations
  • Internal refurbishment of the main turbine hall building
  • Replace windows (51No.)
  • Roof repairs and gutter inspections
  • Door refurbishment

 

Additional Concrete Repairs

Externally concrete defect locations were identified upon erection of scaffolding via hammer tapping prior to coating removal. Following removal of the existing surface coating via grit blasting to the North and West elevations, a large number of further concrete defects were identified and repaired.
