Noble Energy is a US oil and gas company operating in West Africa. The 2020 outage work scope included the removal and replacement of the existing flare tip, the flare tip is located on an elevated boom structure. Zenith designed and fabricated a bespoke temporary lifting frame for installation to the existing upper flare derrick to allow the removal of the existing flare tip and the installation of the replacement flare tip (2267kgs).
Zeniths’ lightweight aluminium modular frame was designed to site specific constraints; section size was restricted to fit within a sled which Zenith designed and built to the limitations of the access stair. The sled was then winched up the boom stair and the frame installed.
Prior to dispatch to site, all equipment was trial assembled (FAT) by the same work crew which would eventually carry out the project on the offshore platform. This approach allows Zeniths’ site operatives to become familiar with actual site conditions thereby having the objective of minimizing the time period required to safely execute the flare tip replacement during the shutdown.
