Zenith has a wealth of experience in this essential field of activity. We have decades of experience in the maintenance and repair of structures across steelworks including industrial chimneys, natural draught cooling towers, flares and other tall structures.

Guy Wire Services

Zenith provides a comprehensive guy wire service for structures such as flare stacks, steel chimneys and masts. In addition, we specify and supply complete guy wire requirements.

Our dedicated team of fully qualified inspection engineers also facilitate all on-site access requirements throughout the full length of the guy wires. Following the survey, all of the information obtained is fed back to our Structural Engineers who compile detailed inspection reports complete with recommendations.

Please refer to the list below for our full range of guy wire services.

  • Maintenance & Repair
  • Dismantling
  • Lubricating
  • Retention
  • Supply and Replacement
  • Verticality
  • Magnetic Inspection (LMA and LF)

Magnetic Inspection (LMA and LF)
Of particular note is our Magnetic Inspection (LMA and LF) service. Electromagnetic tests provide valuable additional information on the condition of wire ropes and are regarded as a useful addition to the visual inspection, particularly, where difficult access precludes a meaningful visual survey.

The permanent magnets induce a magnetic field around the rope, any defect within the wire rope creates a stray field, and this is detected and recorded on the data logger.

Demountable Flare Stacks – Riser Replacement & Erection

We are proud to offer our clients a complete riser replacement and flare tip replacement service on flare structures for the petrochemical industry, including all structural engineering requirements.

We are heavy lifting equipment specialists and we operate worldwide and our portfolio of clients include the world’s leading oil and gas companies. Often working under tight time constraints, Zenith has a reputation for safety, efficiency and attention to detail.

In-house, we provide all of the specialist structural engineering, site management, project execution and extensive know-how.

Zenith can design and supply a comprehensive range of replacement rigging equipment including winch supply.

  • Main Riser design and supply

Steel Chimney – Erection

We design and erect new steel chimneys, replacement liners for both steel and concrete chimneys, ducting design and installation, access ladders and platforms. Repairs and maintenance also fall within our remit, and where this is not feasible we undertake the demolition of the existing chimney.

This is in itself a complex operation as the chimneys can be up to 6500mm in diameter with each section running to 50m in length. Coupled with the fact that the chimneys are often in the proximity of other plant and facilities, this places considerable emphasis on completing the process with the minimum of disruption and the greatest of care.

Maintenance – Industrial Chimneys

The inspection, maintenance, repair and demolition of industrial chimneys remains our core activity. The successful external and internal refurbishment of these structures requires a thorough survey to establish the true extent of the repair work required. A full digital survey is the first stage in a five-phase operation that includes access equipment design, installation, load testing and repairs. We offer an online hot camera inspection as digital photography can reveal weaknesses and defects that require attention, for example to the interior lining and brickwork, baffle walls and flue inlets. Critically, it also enables engineers to plan in advance of a shutdown.

Offshore Flare Tip Replacement

We have pioneered the design of a purpose-built davit to improve the process of replacing flare tips. The davit is positioned directly below the termination point of the flare stack thereby negating the use of expensive barge, cranes and helicopters. This has been designed to take the weight of the tip as it is lowered to the ground and lift the new replacement tip into position. This innovative solution to a complex and expensive problem is now being adopted in refineries, petrochemical plants and offshore platforms around the world, and is an excellent example of our design capabilities delivering commercial benefits often in remote and demanding locations.

Temporary Works Design

From our core values – Design, Innovate & Excellence, our ability to solve technical challenges presented from unusual requests is exemplary. We are, on a day to day basis, continually seeking for new ways to overcome the most complex of engineering challenges.

From providing bespoke access and support solutions over some of the most historical structures in the city of Edinburgh and beyond to designing temporary access decks to large marine jetties, we are continually looking to innovate our designs by utilising modern access techniques and material.

Due to our experience and exposure in the industrial sectors we fully understand how down time and outage works affects process and cost. We aim to complete our designs with the minimum disruption at site level and interface closely with the Clients operations teams to fully understand the design brief from the outset.

Structural Design & Remediation

We are able to generate 2D and 3D models from captured survey information and existing drawings. We can accurately determine revised capacities and assess the life extensions of existing structures and structural elements. Decay, loss of section, material properties, geometry and change of use are a number of variables that can affect the performance and life span of any building or structure. This can all be modelled to represent a snapshot in time and assist with determining the structural integrity of existing assets.

All of our software interfaces with our drafting resource allowing us to accurately schedule components for fabrication purposes or cost analysis. By merging this data with our software we can generate powerful and detailed 3D graphical representations of any structure, or structural element, to better present our analysis results to our clients. These models can also be used to assists in desk top reviews of operational requirements where lifting or sliding of complex fabrications require to accurately interface with (or bypass) existing structural components or services.

Structural Assessment

Zenith Consultants operate the most up to date design and analysis software that supports all of our engineering services. In conjunction with a fully trained and experienced team of Engineers, Technicians and Administrators, this forms the core of our business.

In addition to traditional Civil & Structural engineering consultancy services, we are also capable of surveying, assessing and reporting on all types of existing structure, be it a simple precast concrete lintel or a complex multi-level steel frame or stack for our industrial sector clients. Our principles of analysis and utilisation of applicable design standards and codes are the same throughout.

Conservation Works

We specialise in stonework refurbishment & repairs to buildings and structures. We have considerable experience undertaking complex restoration projects across the United Kingdom, utilising specialist rope access techniques, to preserve the original character and integrity of the stonework.

Our skills are also essential in protecting stone from the effects of adverse weather and natural ageing. Part of the Zenith Structural Access group of companies, we restore historic buildings, churches, bridges, viaducts and commercial properties, and are specialists in the conservation of listed buildings.

  • Stonework repairs
  • Lime harling
  • Lime pointing
  • Stone carving

Bridge Works

Masonry, stone and wrought iron bridges gave way to reinforced concrete in the early 20th century. Up until then thousands of river, road and rail crossings across the UK were forged by traditional stone and masonry arch construction techniques.

Never having been designed to withstand the impact of today’s environment, the decay and subsequent weakening of these structures is beginning to cause concerns for the national transport authorities.

The key skills of our team at Zenith Conservation, and our Engineers Consultancy, are transferable to assist with identifying solutions for suitable repair, refurbishment and strengthening techniques of ageing masonry and stone (or composite) bridges.

We are able to work as principle contractor or as a specialist to the transport authorities. In addition we are able to provide a reactive service to repair damaged masonry or stone parapets caused by vehicle impact or similar.

Roofing Services
